WALK leadership and creatives at a strategic meeting

WALK SACCO Launched in Gulu City

WALK Creative Arts Foundation formally introduced the WALK SACCO project to stakeholders at Kaunda Ground in Gulu City.

The launch brought together creatives, district officials, Members of Parliament, financial institutions, local leaders and representatives from government institutions to understand the SACCO's purpose, activities and regional scope.

The Quarter One report records this as the formal project launch and notes that participating stakeholders welcomed the initiative and called for coordinated implementation.

Members Elect WALK SACCO Steering Committee

WALK SACCO members elected a nine-member steering committee to guide the affairs of the cooperative.

The committee includes representation from Acholi, Karamoja, Lango and West Nile, reflecting the SACCO's regional structure.

The election was convened by the WALK Creative Arts Foundation Secretariat as part of establishing the governance structure for the SACCO.

WALK SACCO Leaders Complete Governance Orientation

Following the establishment of the SACCO leadership, committee members participated in orientation on governance and cooperative management.

The training covered areas including board responsibilities, governance policy, digital banking, savings culture and the roles of SACCO leadership.

The sessions involved experienced facilitators from local government, Microfinance Support Centre and the banking sector.

WALK SACCO Establishes Operational Office in Gulu City

WALK SACCO established an operational office in Gulu City as part of building the administrative structure required to serve members.

The Quarter One workplan records office establishment and staff recruitment among the completed activities during the SACCO's initial implementation period.

Four Loan Products Developed for WALK SACCO Members

WALK SACCO developed four loan products intended to respond to different member needs: Asset Financing, Production Loans, Micro Loans and Group Guarantee Loans.

The product design process involved technical guidance from Microfinance Support Centre and considered the practical financing needs of creatives and small enterprises.

Training session

Members Participate in Financial and Business Skills Training

WALK SACCO members participated in virtual and in-person learning sessions covering financial management, entrepreneurship and digital skills.

The sessions used experience sharing, group discussion, demonstrations and facilitated learning to strengthen members' understanding of business and financial management.

WALK SACCO Explores Digital Access for Member Services

WALK SACCO has explored digital options that could make it easier for members to interact with their accounts and access cooperative services remotely.

The Quarter One report describes plans for digital access to savings information, payments, loan-related processes, member communication and online forms.

WALK movement in action

WALK Continues to Organise Creatives Across Four Sub-Regions

WALK Creative Arts Foundation brings together creatives from West Nile, Acholi, Lango and Karamoja across nine creative domains.

The Foundation's broader work is focused on strengthening the creative sector through professional development, market access, cultural preservation, financial inclusion, advocacy and livelihood opportunities.

This institutional direction comes from WALK's original proposal and its bottom-up model of bringing different creative-sector actors together under one umbrella.
