Financial Inclusion Built for Creatives

WALK SACCO is the financial-inclusion pillar of WALK Creative Arts Foundation — a member-owned savings and credit cooperative giving Northern Uganda's creatives a secure place to save, affordable credit to grow, and a financial home designed around creative income.

Why WALK SACCO Exists

The SACCO is one pillar of WALK Creative Arts Foundation's work. Across Acholi, Lango, West Nile and Karamoja, creatives are often locked out of conventional finance because creative income is irregular and poorly understood by traditional lenders. WALK SACCO turns that on its head: it is owned by the creatives themselves, governed by member-elected leadership, and built around the way creative money actually flows — up in thriving seasons, down in quiet ones, always in motion.

How Loan Applications Work

Five simple steps from saving to repayment.

1. Save Consistently

Build a record of consistent saving with the SACCO. This is the foundation of your creditworthiness and, typically, your first loan eligibility after a three-month saving period.

2. Apply

Visit the SACCO office in Gulu City or contact the team to begin your loan application. The team will confirm the loan products you qualify for.

3. Assessment

The loan committee reviews your application against the SACCO's savings and lending policy. Your maximum loan amount is typically based on your total savings and creative activity.

4. Agreement

Approved members sign a loan agreement setting out the loan amount, interest rate, repayment term and the responsibilities of both sides.

5. Disbursement & Repayment

Funds are disbursed and repaid in monthly instalments designed to work with the rhythm of creative income.

Apply for a Loan

WALK SACCO offers loans for creative production, equipment and assets, working capital and group-guaranteed credit. Every application is assessed by the loan committee under the SACCO's savings and lending policy.

Before you apply, please note:

  • Loan eligibility requires consistent saving — typically a three-month saving period after joining.
  • Your maximum loan amount is based on your total savings and creative activity.
  • Exact interest rates and terms are set out in the SACCO's savings and lending policy.
  • The calculator above is an estimate only and does not guarantee a specific loan or rate.
  • Submission of an application does not automatically confirm loan approval.

Owned by Members, Run by Members

The SACCO is a cooperative. Its structure and practices keep it accountable to the creative community it serves.

Member-Owned Decisions

Every member holds a stake in the SACCO. Its direction is set by the members themselves, not by outside shareholders.

Elected Leadership

The SACCO's leadership is elected from within the membership and serves on behalf of the creative community across the four sub-regions.

Transparent & Accountable

The SACCO operates under Uganda's cooperative law with clear record-keeping, member meetings and accountability to its members.

Responsible Borrowing

A loan is a tool. Used well, it grows your craft and your income.

Borrow for productive purposes

Use loans for production, equipment or working capital that can generate the income to repay itself.

Keep repayments within your cash flow

Before borrowing, confirm the monthly instalment fits your income — even in a quieter creative season.

Save before you borrow

Consistent saving builds your creditworthiness and reduces the amount you need to borrow.

Read your loan agreement and ask questions

Understand the interest rate, fees, repayment term and consequences before you sign anything.

Report difficulties early

If repayment becomes a challenge, talk to the SACCO team before the situation worsens.

Never use loan funds for gambling or speculation

Borrow only for purposes that support your craft, business and long-term financial security.
